Origin of the name "Tikal" (pronounced tee-kahl)

Tikal is the largest ancient Mayan city discovered by the modern world of archeology. Various studies report that Tikal was one of the largest Mayan urban centers during its day with approximately 60,000 to 90,000 inhabitants. It is said to be one of the most spiritual and mysterious wonders of the ancient Mayan civilization.

The ruins of this Central American place of mystery are entrenched in the jungle world of what is now called The Tikal National Park (established in 1955). This intriguing and incredibly large Mayan city-community is located in the el Peten province of northern Guatemala. It is verified by archeological groups and academic researchers as being the largest excavated site in the American continent (tikalpark.com), covering 222 square miles.

The magical aura of these majestic, mystical buildings in their natural jungle enviroment were the first name that came to his mind when Norm Olson founded the company in 1987, three years after first exploring the area. These temples standing strong after hundreds of years were an ideal symbol for a construction company striving for excellence on every project.
